MISSION CAPSULES: Our gifts to Presbyterians Sharing ... support Almanarah Presbyterian Church in London, Ontario, an Arabic Christian community that draws together people from many countries including Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria. Both adult and youth attendance are growing. Almanarah"s youth have started a puppet ministry, writing plays and skits and putting them on DVD. These videos are used in the church and are also posted on their website, drawing international viewers. The project brings gifted, artistic Christians together, allowing them to use their talents while learning and experiencing more about God. Let us pray for Almanarah as they bring Christ's message of love, hope and salvation to Arabic and non-Arabic speaking families and individuals in London and beyond.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR STEWARDSHIP AND FINANCE COMMITTEE: At this February's AGM the congregation made the decision to accept our 2011 budget in which our planned contributions did not cover our expenses. Our committee was asked to update the congregation in June. Julie has prepared a brief recap, which is available in the narthex, reflecting your position from January 1st to May 31st, 2011.

First, the not so good news; during the first five months of 2011, our expenses were $1921.00 greater than our income. Our offerings have not been as high as we had planned for this year. Also, our contributions to Presbyterians Sharing have dropped to $1200.00 to date. In comparision, BPC provided $12,000.00 to our national church work several years ago.

The good news is that the loss of $1900.00 is small enough that we have been able to continue to borrow from the Building fund to cover our loss. We have not had any large unexpected expenses to date although the roof and furnace may need work in the future. If there are major unplanned expenses, we will borrow the remainder of the building funds and then use the Manse fund. The cuts to our staff made at the AGM (the music director, the church administrator, the Christian Education co-ordinator and cleaning staff) have been absorbed by extraordinary efforts by the existing staff and the work of a few faithful volunteers.

Please review the summary available if you want more detail and prayerfully consider what each of us can do to help in our current financial situation. On behalf of your Stewardship and Finance Committee, I would like to express our appreciation for your continuing support. Doug Duke
