MISSION CAPSULES: Ayishetu Abu had not seen her family in eight years. She was living at the Gambaga Outcast Home in Ghana – a shelter for women facing accusations of witchcraft. In many Ghanaian communities, there is a tendency to suspect witchcraft as the cause of crop failure, the death of the child or any other unexplained event. In addition to improving living conditions at the shelter, PWS&D works to foster social acceptance among these communities and educate village leaders about human rights, mental illness, disabilities and other health issues often mistakenly attributed to witchcraft. To ensue more women like Ayishetu can embrace opportunities that are the right of every person, PWS&D will continue working for justice and peace.

Note: Rainbow Communion is The Special LGBTQI Listening Committee made up of Seven members drawn from across the church reflecting the diversity of the denomination and includes two members who identify as LGBTQI. Their mandate is to offer a safe and respectful environment in which confidentiality is assured, in order to encourage people to tell stories of harm done to them within and by the church because of homophobia, heterosexism and transphobia; and to share stories of God’s grace experienced by them and through them in Christian ministry, even in the midst of the challenges they have faced. To invite people to submit their stories orally or in writing (face to face, video conference, phone call, email, traditional mail, or other means.) With permission, shared stories may be included in the committee’s report to a future General Assembly.
