THURSDAY, AUGUST 6th, 2015 - "The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be" Ralph Waldo Emerson

SUNDAY, AUGUST 9th, 2015 - Join us for worship at 10:00 am - Rev. Rafael Vallejo leading. We will celebrate Communion.......................a little taste from Sunday's sermon .... "Back in the 70's, Howard Hageman, a pastoral historian and theologian of worship tasked with editing and revising the official Lord's Supper liturgy of the Reformed Church in America (RCA) coined that simple, memorable phrase " ... a meal of remembrance, communion and hope."

MISSION CAPSULES: Presbyterian World Service & Development responds to situations where indigenous people are marginalized and denied their basic human rights. PWS&D supports local partners in Guatemala to develop programs to train and teach indigenous Maya-Mam women about health, nutrition, environmental awareness and entrepreneurship. By building their self-esteem and leadership qualities, PWS&D helps create opportunities for the women to expand their social capacity and their livelihoods. Aurelia is one of these women - she was initially trained and now shares this knowledge with others in her community. She shares: "I hope to continue working with my community so we can improve our living conditions - especially for our children, who are our future."

NOTE: I came across this reference this week which I thought was worth sharing. From Christian Worship by Ronald P. Byars. "We socialize young children in our society, too. We have schools, churches, synagogues, Brownies, Cubs, Scouts, soccer and hockey leagues - and television. Which, do you suppose makes the largest impact? According to some accounts, a child will have absorbed 30,000 television ads before entering first grade. Adolescents will spend more time with advertisements than the entire length of their academic experience in high school. In comparison, 52 hours of religious education a year are pitifully few."

I went to a seafood disco last week - and pulled a mussel!

Patient: "Doc, I can't stop singing "The Green, Green Grass of Home" Doc: "That sounds like Tom Jones Syndrome". Patient: "Is it common?" Doc: "It's not unusual!"

Two antenna met on a roof, fell in love and got married. The Ceremony wasn't much but the reception was excellent!

A jumper cable walks into a bar. The bartender says, " I'll serve you, but don't start anything"

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One says to the other: "does this taste funny to you?"

What do you call a fish with no eyes? A fish!

Have a good week - MB
