MISSION CAPSULES: Sayed Mahammad makes bricks to support his family. For a time, his ten year old daughter, Saima, worked alongside him. Through a PWS&D project in Afghanistan, Sayed learned that his daughter was too young to be doing hard labour at the brick factory and that it was his responsibility to send her to school. "I feel really proud of myself now, because everyone at home appreciates that I am sending my daughter to school." Not only is Sayed sending and enabling his daughter to pursue an education, he is working hard to raise awareness about how education can change children's futures. Since PWS&D started supporting the girls' education project in Afghanistan, over 4,000 girls have been enrolled in school.

COMING UP:

SUNDAY, JANUARY 25th, 2015 - Tory Smit will be joining us following worship to brainstorm and discuss models of worship and future children/youth ministry. Our current model of Sunday School is in jeopardy. Mary Rae Shantz and Erin Sclisizzi have been teaching for the past 22 years and would like a break. We need people to come forward to take over their roles. Marcia Livingstone is willing to work with the young children in the worship center but this leaves the older children without leadership. This does not mean you have to teach every week but perhaps 2-3 weeks in a row. Do consider attending this important meeting.

FEBRUARY 8th, 2015 - Beaches Annual Congregational Meeting - If you write reports for this meeting please deliver them to Elisabeth Grant by January 21st.

FEBRUARY 16th, 2015 - FAMILY DAY - Second Annual Concert at Beaches - 12:00 noon. For more information speak to Heather Crisp.

FEBRUARY 18th, 2015 - Ash Wednesday Service

STUFF: The Washington Post's Mensa Invitational once again invited readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting or changing one letter and supply a new definition. Here are the winners!

1. Cashtration (n): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period of time.

2. Intaxicaton: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

3. Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.

4. Bozone: The substance surrounding people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.

5. Giraffiti: Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.

6. Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.

Have a good week - stay warm. MB
