REFUGEE UPDATE: Our refugee friends, Hossein and Navid, arrived safe and sound on December 23rd - as there was no power at the Presbyterian Mission residence, they stayed with Mary Beth and Klaas until Christmas Day. On the 24th Klaas managed to get them winter boots, pay-as-you-go sim cards for their cell phones, an adaptor for their laptop and bank accounts. Federal support will be via direct deposit. They purchased skates and Henriette took them skating. As of now the Refugee Committee is gathering donations for their apartment. The Presbyterian Mission residence is furnished but they have to move by February 1st.

MISSION CAPSULES: At least 70% of the people who regularly go to bed hungry are farmers in developing countries. While it may be surprising, it is often the people who produce food that do not have enough to eat. Climate change means higher temperatures, drought, parched crops and flooding. For many people, it also means more hunger. PWS&D and Canadian Foodgrains Bank are teaching farmers strategies to adapt to climate change and grow more food. We also work to end global hunger by influencing public policies. Join the Harvest of Letters campaign and write a letter to your MP urging the Canadian government to provide support to vulnerable populations dealing with climate change.
