MISSION CAPSULES: Before receiving food assistance, Alice Sapanga and her five children were often hungry. Weak and malnourished they were unable to go to school and she could barely manage to breastfeed her youngest. Like many other families in the Balaka region of Malawi, Alice's crops of sorghum and maize failed after prolonged dry spells. Thanks to food distributions, Alice and her family have their energy back, and as a mother she is happy to see her children going to school again. Presbyterian World Service and Development in partnership with Canadian Foodgrains Bank, provided 5000 households with food packages between Octoer 2012 and March 2013. Your support of PWS&D ensures families have nutritious food in times of crisis.

MORE "WHY'S"

Why is 'abbreviated' such a long word?

Why is it that doctors and attorneys call what they do 'practice'?

Why is lemon juice made with artifical flavouring and dish washing liquid made with real lemons?

Why is the man who invests all your money called a "broker"?

Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called "rush hour"?

Have a good week - MB
