BEACHES FINANCIALS: Recently, Session and Stewardship and Finances met together to discuss the Financial Health of Beaches Church. It became clear to all of us that we need treatment!

Although we have received commitments of special donations to pay for approximately four and half of the six replacement windows for the Sanctuary, we are projecting an operating deficit for 2012, based on our current givings. The deficit could be over $10,000.00 for 2012. In some ways Beaches is like retailers who need an end of year "push" to get them into the black. In the U.S. and now a little in Canada, they rely on "Black Friday" to get their balance sheets into the black. So do we. In the past we have talked about adding an exra week into December for givings. Also, if every one of our regular givers gave $100.00 then we would halve that deficit. It would make our deliberations for the 2013 budget easier.

As we look to 2013, we have learned that we will have to make some additional repairs to the boiler/furnace which will increase our costs for next year. We have virtually depleted the last reserve fund that we have access to, the "Manse Fund". This fund has provided a cash flow cushion for us to be able to pay our bills regularly, confidently and on time. We must take steps to rebuild this cushion to ensure the future of our church. I am asking everyone to joyfully consider their regular contributions for 2013. For those on PAR, can you increase your amount? Those who give on the plate, can you move to PAR and provide a regular, predictable source of revenue to the church? We have roughly 50 regular givers. A cup of coffee costs about $2.00 - if we all gave the equivalent of two cups of coffee extra per week, we would place Beaches in a much more sustainable position for the longer term.

In a time of reflection in the church year, we all need to ask ourselves what we are prepared to do for Beaches, to ensure that we can continue to be here for us, our children and our community. As ever, Session welcomes any and all suggestions as well as your prayers. Michael Brett, Clerk
