MISSION CAPSULES: Our gifts to Presbyterians Sharing ... support Toronto's Boarding Homes Ministry (BHM) as it nurtures Christian community by linking residents of boarding homes with visitors from area congregations. People gather to worship, pray, sing, rejoice and celebrate life together and friendships blossom as this new community becomes united in Jesus. BHM's Chaplain, The Rev. Roger Hunter, writes; "The residents of these homes are a gift. They can be witty, charming, deeply caring, and will greet us with a wonderful hospitality. Residents are brave in the face of often serious illness and tragic isolation. They frequently have great insight into spiritual matters and become our teachers in life and in our understanding of God-among-us." Let us pray for the residents of boarding homes across Canada, and for congregations who are entering into Christian community with them.

NOTE: More than ten years ago, Rev. Roger Hunter began the Boarding Homes Ministry in Toronto and over the years it has spread across the country. At that time, Beaches picked it up and there is a team who every Monday go to a local Boarding Homes to minister to the residents. It is one of the ministries of our church that quietly continues.

NOTE: One day last week, I was helping clean out some old church material and came across several copies of a newsletter - "Kairos" - that we used to put out during the time of Drew Strickland. I brought several home to read and in one of them I wrote a piece about the church's finances. At the time we were running a deficit of $20,000.00 - nothing has changed except our current deficit is not so large. At the time I suggested that if we all kicked in an extra $2.00 per week, or a toonie, we could wipe out the deficit. It apparently worked. So, if it worked then it could work now. Think about it.

It was palm Sunday and because of a sore throat, five year old Johnny stayed home from church with a sitter. When the family returned home, they were carrying palm branches. The boy asked what they were for - "People held them over Jesus' head as he walked by" "Wouldn't you know it', the boy fumed, "The one Sunday I don't go and He shows up"!!

Prayers: The Sunday School teacher asked, "now Johnny, tell me, do you say prayers before eating?" No, he replied, "we don't have to, my mom is a good cook"!

Little Johnny asked his Grandma how old she was. Grandma answered, "39 and holding". Johnny thought for a moment, and then said, "and how old would you be if you let go"?

Have a good week - MB
