MISSION CAPSULES: Gifts to Presbyterians Sharing ... help support St. Matthew's Presbyterian Church in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland. The congregation was formed in 1910, and theirs was the first church building in the emerging pulp and paper town. It has always been difficult to attract and keep a minister in this isolated area, so the laity has taken a strong leadership role in the church and community over the years. Services with the Rev. Dr. Ian Wishart, the interim moderator, take place once a month. Ian visits for two full days so that he can lead a Sunday service and make pastoral visits to nursing homes and to those unable to attend worship. Although small, the congregation remains active, faithfully supporting the church and valuing it's place both in the town of Grand Falls-Windsor and the wider faith community of Presbyterians in Canada.
